A three year trial in Tanzania shows that the Star home design reduces clinical malaria by 44%, diarrhea by 30%, and pneumonia by 18% among children. The design focuses on passive cooling, cross ventilation, and strategic bedroom placement to limit exposure to mosquitoes and pathogens. Beyond health benefits, the Star home is more sustainable than traditional cement block houses. It uses 73% less concrete and cuts embodied carbon emissions by 57%, offering a scalable model for low carbon rural development in sub Saharan Africa.
