The 5.9 tCO2e per tonne figure is interesting, but the real question is how Azerbaijan integrates this into its local procurement rules. Without a formal carbon accounting standard or a local version of CBAM, there is little incentive for builders to pay a premium for low-carbon metal.

Exactly. I care more about the 80 year maintenance claim. If the material actually lasts that long without repair, the lifecycle cost wins regardless of the carbon tag. But that is a bold claim for any building material in a real world environment.

Fair point. Most of these corporate claims ignore the logistics emissions. Moving millions of tonnes of aluminium from Siberia to Baku adds a chunk of carbon back into the mix that the tCO2e per tonne figure usually ignores.
