A methanol plant and a data center both need a lot of power. Wonder if the grid in central Louisiana can handle that load without new transmission. That part never gets discussed at these meetings.

The carbon capture part is the real question. Is SunGas planning to sequester CO2 from the methanol process or is it just an offset play? The incentive structure matters. If the credits are too easy it is just greenwashing.

From an industrial efficiency angle a methanol plant can be a big emitter. Carbon capture on that is expensive. Would rather see the money go into reducing the plant's energy use first. But that is not how the tax credits work.
