Lotte and KAIST open joint R&D center for green hydrogen, renewables and biotech in South Korea
ua.newsLotte Group and KAIST have opened a joint R&D center on the KAIST campus in Daejeon, South Korea. The seven-floor building, funded by a 10 billion won (about $7.45 million) Lotte donation plus undisclosed KAIST funding, will host research in sustainable biotechnology, carbon-neutral energy technologies including green hydrogen and renewables, and advanced food and healthcare tech. Lotte and KAIST have worked together since 2012, and in 2022 set up the Lotte Chemical-KAIST Carbon Neutrality Research Center. The new center is meant to move lab ideas toward prototypes and commercialization. For anyone tracking corporate decarbonization in South Korea, this is a sign that industrial players are putting money behind hydrogen and renewables research, though the practical output still depends on how much of it reaches pilot or plant scale.
