London Stadium Solar Hits 1 Million kWh, Cuts 177 Tonnes of CO2
solarquarter.comLondon Stadium's rooftop solar array has passed 1 million kWh of generation in its first 14 months. The 3,350 panels sit on a 6,500 square metre roof membrane and helped avoid about 177 tonnes of carbon emissions. The project was delivered by Ameresco UK and backed by the Mayor of London's Green Finance Fund as part of a 4.35 million pound climate action package. The system is not just for show. In June 2026 it produced more than 140,000 kWh, covering around 21% of the stadium's electricity demand that month. The venue kept hosting concerts, athletics, and West Ham matches while the system ran. That mix of event load and on-site generation is the practical part worth watching, since most of the electricity likely gets used when the stadium is active.
