Logan County Weighs Six-Month Moratorium on Carbon Sequestration Facilities
journal-advocate.comLogan County commissioners will consider a six-month moratorium on permits for carbon sequestration facilities at their Oct. 6 meeting. The proposal follows complaints from residents living near a converted CO2 compressor station who report health issues. Commissioner Jim Yahn wants the county to study setbacks before allowing sequestration wells or pipelines. The board also discussed companies leasing land for sequestration wells near Peetz and a Brightwater pipeline that may have moved into Nebraska. Commissioners agreed on the need for building permits and zoning rules similar to those for wind and solar projects. A decision on the moratorium is expected at the upcoming business meeting.
