Logan County pauses carbon sequestration permits for 6 months after CO2 pipeline dispute
journal-advocate.comLogan County commissioners approved a six-month moratorium on permits for carbon sequestration facilities, including CO2 pipelines and compressor stations. The move follows complaints from residents about the conversion of the Trailblazer natural gas pipeline to carry carbon dioxide. The Hume family, who live near a Tallgrass Energy compressor station, filed a lawsuit claiming the company is running CO2 through their property without a valid easement. They report noise, vibration, and odors, and question whether the aging pipeline is safe for CO2 transport. Tallgrass says the system is monitored 24/7 and can be operated safely. The moratorium gives the county time to review permitting rules, setbacks, and public notice requirements before allowing more sequestration projects.
