Their approach focuses on capturing waste gases and converting them into electricity, providing a practical path for industrial plants to lower their carbon footprint while maintaining operational efficiency.

600 MW installed capacity is a decent start, but the real question is the reliability of these waste gas sources. If the steel mill has a shutdown, the power plant goes dark. I wonder what the actual capacity factor is for these blast furnace gas units.
That is exactly why they likely use them as primary sources for data centers with the grid as backup. It is a hedge. The interesting part is how this fits into China's carbon peaking goals. Are these offsets being traded or just counted as internal reductions?
Using associated petroleum gas in Northern Europe to stop methane venting is a win. It is a direct way to stop a high GWP gas from hitting the atmosphere. Much better than theoretical carbon capture that never leaves the pilot stage.
Liyu is pushing a lot of different fuels here, from biomass to coalbed methane. It is a broad approach to industrial decarbonization. The 14.8 million ton CO2 reduction claim for 2025 is a big number, but they do not list the baseline they are measuring against.
