LiuGong 870HE electric wheel loader tested at STRABAG quarry for zero emission operations
electrek.coLiuGong is testing its 25 ton 870HE electric wheel loader at a STRABAG quarry in Slovenia this summer. The machine uses a 423 kWh LFP battery from CATL and a 210 kW motor, with a 7,500 kg load capacity. It can fast charge from 10 to 80 percent in under an hour at 300 kW. STRABAG aims for carbon neutrality by 2040 and sees electrified equipment as a key step to cut fuel costs and emissions. This pilot matters because heavy construction equipment is a major source of diesel emissions and operating expenses. If the trial succeeds, it could lead to broader adoption of battery electric loaders in European quarries and eventually in North America, where LiuGong already sells equipment. The article also notes that ongoing fuel supply disruptions make the switch to electric more urgent for operators.
