Aptamus Carbon Solutions and Demeter Energy signed a memorandum of understanding to develop a liquefied CO2 terminal and marine transport system at Seaport Manatee in Florida. The project supports Demeter's planned biomethanol and carbon capture facility, which would produce about 100,000 tonnes of low-carbon biomethanol per year and capture roughly 200,000 tonnes of CO2. Captured CO2 would be liquefied at the terminal and shipped by a new dual cargo vessel to a port in Texas or Louisiana for permanent underground storage or enhanced oil recovery. The proposed Jones Act compliant vessel would carry both biomethanol and LCO2, which Aptamus says would be a first for a US-flagged ship. The agreement builds on Aptamus's COAST 20 work on CO2 marine transport to Gulf Coast storage sites. It also highlights how marine logistics can fill gaps where CO2 pipelines are not available, especially for biogenic CO2 tied to low-carbon fuel production.
