LG Uplus has partnered with data space specialist IBCT to launch a Catena-X service for Korean manufacturers. Catena-X is the standardized platform used by BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Volkswagen to exchange production, quality, and carbon footprint data with suppliers. The service covers consulting, membership, system deployment, cloud, and security infrastructure. The move comes as European automakers increasingly require suppliers to share product carbon footprint and supply chain data. Starting February 2025, EV batteries sold in the EU must include a Battery Passport with carbon information. LG Uplus says the number of active Catena-X users grew from 182 in December to 1,069 in September, and 61 of the top 100 auto parts suppliers are now using it. For LG Uplus, this is a B2B growth area. Its data center revenue rose 28.9% year over year in Q2, while traditional connectivity grew only 0.2%. The company sees ongoing operational services as a recurring revenue stream once systems are deployed.
