LG Uplus and IBCT partner on Catena-X to help Korean suppliers meet EU carbon and supply chain data rules
digitaltoday.co.krLG Uplus and IBCT have signed a strategic partnership to help South Korean manufacturers adopt Catena-X, the automotive data-sharing ecosystem used by BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Volkswagen. The service covers consultation, membership, system setup, infrastructure and operations. IBCT is the only South Korean partner of Cofinity-X, which runs Catena-X's commercial service. The push is driven by tightening European supply chain rules. Exporters now need to manage and share data on product carbon footprints, raw material sourcing, production history and supply chain traceability. LG Uplus brings cloud, network and security infrastructure, while IBCT contributes its data-space platform and onboarding experience. For small and midsize suppliers, the main benefit is avoiding the cost of building Catena-X capability on their own. Whether it works will depend on how well the service handles real manufacturing data and how much it costs in practice.
