LG Energy Solution is pivoting its US production capacity toward energy storage systems (ESS) to counter a slowdown in the electric vehicle market. The company aims to expand its North American storage capacity to over 80 gigawatt-hours by next year, driven by AI data center power demands and IRA subsidies. To address grid congestion and long transmission timelines, LG is exploring distributed power models and sodium-ion batteries. These salt-based batteries are intended to reduce costs and reliance on lithium for large-scale grid stabilization by 2029.
