Levelise platform lets UK net zero housing residents earn revenue from home energy systems

Levelise is providing the energy optimization platform for Cosmeston Farm, a 576-home development in Penarth that is the UK's largest net zero carbon housing site. Every home includes solar PV, a networked ground source heat pump, battery storage, and an EV charge point. The Levelise platform aggregates these distributed energy assets to participate in grid flexibility markets, with revenue flowing back to residents. The system coordinates when batteries charge and discharge, when heat pumps pre-heat homes, and when EVs draw power. This aligns household energy use with grid needs and reduces system strain. Steve Day, Product Director at Levelise, said the homes are designed to earn, not just absorb costs. The project treats low-carbon technologies as long-term performing assets rather than compliance requirements. As the UK pushes for mass heat pump adoption and transport electrification, Cosmeston Farm is expected to serve as a flagship site for national policy on low-cost, low-carbon housing.
