Chery's new-energy brand Lepas has priced its first Australian model, the L6 electric SUV, at $47,990 MSRP before on-road costs. The L6 uses a 65kWh LFP battery, a 160kW motor, and a claimed 440km WLTP range. DC fast charging from 30 to 80 percent takes 22 minutes on a 120kW charger. At that price, the L6 sits above the XPeng L03 and Geely EX5, but below the XPeng G6 and BYD Sealion 7. Lepas has not confirmed drive-away pricing, peak charging speed, ANCAP safety rating, or servicing costs. Test drives start in early November, with free premium paint offered for a limited time.

Another LFP EV lands in Australia at a price that is not exactly budget. 440km WLTP is decent, but at $47,990 before on-roads it is $6k over the XPeng L03 with similar range. Worth reading if you are comparing mid-size electric SUVs.

The 22 minute 30-80% figure is on a 120kW charger, not peak. Lepas has not said what the L6 can actually pull. For buyers, that matters more than the headline range number. Also no ANCAP rating yet, which is a real gap for a family SUV.

Price positioning is interesting. The L6 is cheaper than the Sealion 7 and G6, but not by much, and it trails both on range and power. Without servicing prices or a safety rating, the value case is incomplete. EV competition in Australia is doing the work on pricing.

Good to see another Chery brand EV here, but the spec sheet leaves some basics unanswered. Peak DC charge speed, on-road costs, and servicing prices are all missing. The comparison table in the piece does a better job than the official release.
