LEGO has started using e-methanol to make more than 90 plastic components, including steering wheels, connectors and Minifigure hands. E-methanol is produced with renewable energy and recycled CO2, and the company says the switch lowers its use of virgin fossil fuels. The material comes from a partnership with Danish renewable energy producer European Energy and healthcare firm Novo Nordisk. LEGO spent five years testing and scaling the fuel before putting it into production. The company still needs to work out how to integrate renewable feedstocks into existing manufacturing lines at scale. It has set a net-zero by 2050 goal and an interim target to cut absolute emissions 37% by 2032 against a 2019 baseline.
