Lee Kum Kee Earns Gold in Hong Kong Packaging Reduction Charter with Lighter Bottles and Recyclable Packaging
dagangnews.comLee Kum Kee has received the Gold Award in Hong Kong's inaugural Packaging Reduction Charter, run by the Environmental Protection Department. The sauce maker was among the first food companies to sign the charter, which pushes businesses to cut packaging waste and support Hong Kong's carbon neutrality goal. The award covers packaging reduction, recyclability, reuse, and promotion of reduction. The company says it has cut the weight of its 32-ounce oyster sauce bottles from 410 to 390 grams, saving about 10 tonnes of glass per year. It also reports saving more than 200 tonnes of carton material annually through redesigned cartons, and says over 95% of its packaging by weight is recyclable. The updates follow EPD practical guides and the Consumer Goods Forum's Golden Design Rules.
