Nice to see SAF actually being used on a real route instead of just announced. Punta Arenas to Antarctica is a short but high profile leg. Every tonne of CO2 avoided matters, but the volume here is tiny.

Charter flights are a good testbed for SAF because you control the fuel supply chain. But scaling this to regular commercial routes is a whole different problem. Infrastructure and cost are the real barriers.

True, but you have to start somewhere. LATAM is at least building operational experience with SAF handling and blending. That data is useful even if the volumes stay low for now.

The policy angle here is interesting. Chile has a national green hydrogen strategy but no specific SAF mandate yet. Without a blending obligation or subsidy, these flights are voluntary and likely PR driven. Still better than nothing.
