Researchers have developed a laser-induced porosity engineering (LIPE) technique to improve the structure of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs). By using lasers to reorganize internal defects and refine pore uniformity, the team increased CO2 adsorption capacity by up to 75 percent. This method avoids the complex chemical and thermal treatments typically used to fix structural defects in porous materials. The resulting MOFs show a significant increase in specific surface area, offering a more energy-efficient path for carbon capture and natural gas purification.
