Researchers at the Korea Institute of Materials Science have developed a laser-based technique to modify the internal structure of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs). This method uses precision laser pulses to create specific defects and optimize pore architecture, increasing CO2 adsorption capacity by up to 75%. This structural tuning allows for higher selectivity when capturing carbon from mixed gas streams. By improving the density of active adsorption sites without compromising material stability, the process could reduce the energy and operational costs associated with industrial carbon capture.
