LanzaTech and the BRIGHT research group are partnering to establish a carbon-to-fuels biofoundry at the Technical University of Denmark. The facility will use gas fermentation and engineered microbes to convert carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, and methane into sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and industrial chemicals. By utilizing AI-driven design and high-throughput testing, the project aims to speed up the development of microbial strains. This move supports the EU's ReFuelEU Aviation mandates, which require a significant increase in SAF usage at European airports by 2050.
