LanzaJet Raises $20M to Expand SAF Production at Freedom Pines, LanzaTech Increases Stake
chemanalyst.comLanzaJet has secured at least $20 million in fully committed financing to support sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production at its Freedom Pines Fuels facility in Soperton, Georgia. The first close took place on October 14, 2026, and the deal is expected to be completed by December 2026. LanzaTech, Vinod Khosla, and the LanzaJet board are backing the round, with LanzaTech increasing its ownership stake in LanzaJet. Freedom Pines is the world's first commercial-scale alcohol-to-jet plant, with capacity of 10 million gallons per year. It converts ethanol from US and Brazilian supply chains, agricultural feedstocks, and waste-derived sources into SAF and renewable diesel that already meet ASTM specifications. LanzaTech's gas fermentation technology, which turns waste carbon into ethanol, could broaden feedstock access and help LanzaJet meet stricter SAF requirements in the UK and EU. The funding is meant to cover operations, production scale-up, and customer deliveries. The immediate effect on ethanol or SAF prices will likely be small given the plant's capacity, but the deal strengthens LanzaJet's position as it tries to move from a first-of-a-kind facility to a broader commercial buildout. Future expansion still depends on feedstock costs, demand, and financing for additional projects.
