Lalamove has reached its new energy vehicle (NEV) order fulfillment goal in China three years ahead of schedule. Over 60% of orders are now fulfilled by NEVs, with the van segment seeing an even higher adoption rate of 67%. The company is focusing on Scope 3 emissions by partnering with carmakers to increase EV availability for drivers. They are also using route optimization and order matching to reduce empty mileage and lower the carbon intensity of each delivery.

Lalamove hit its China NEV target early. Most of their footprint is Scope 3, so getting driver partners into electric vans is the only way they actually move the needle on emissions.
Hitting 60% is fine, but I wonder about the charging infrastructure for those vans. Are they relying on public fast chargers or do these driver partners have dedicated depots? That is usually where the scaling hits a wall.
True. If these are independent contractors, the payback period on an electric van has to be short, or the government has to foot a big part of the bill. Otherwise, drivers won't switch.
The speed of this shift is likely more about Chinese subsidies and local NEV mandates than internal corporate will. The incentives for fleet electrification in China are far ahead of most other markets.
