Lack of comparable carbon data blocks lower-carbon workforce accommodation bookings, Roomex research finds

New research from workforce travel management platform Roomex reveals that only 24% of UK business decision-makers can easily compare carbon data before booking workforce accommodation. A further 33% see the information for only some options, while 38% receive it after booking or not at all. This lack of comparable carbon data makes it difficult for companies to choose lower-carbon accommodations for their mobile workforces, even as 71% of organizations say such accommodation is essential or important. The report, called The Accommodation Visibility Gap, notes that cost, location, availability, or project urgency override carbon impact in 85% of organizations at least some of the time. Nearly two-thirds of bookers need approval or cannot select a lower-carbon option if it costs more or is farther from the worksite. Roomex calls for integrating accommodation search, booking, approval, and reporting data so carbon can be considered before a room is booked rather than only measured afterward. Through its partnership with SQUAKE, Roomex now supports CO2e estimates for accommodation, helping organizations view carbon impact alongside practical booking information. The core problem remains: without clear, comparable carbon data at the point of booking, businesses cannot make informed lower-carbon choices for workforce travel.
