La Trobe University Wins $7M ARC Future Fellowships for Climate, Energy Transition and More
miragenews.comLa Trobe University has won nearly $7 million in Australian Research Council Future Fellowships, including funding for a first-of-its-kind study of energy transitions across the Asia-Australian Monsoon Zone. Dr Ruth Gamble, Director of La Trobe Asia, will lead historical research into how climate, fuel, food, labour, plantations and industry shaped the region's energy systems, and why those forces still affect renewable energy adoption today. Two other projects funded in the same round cover election misinformation and Australian gesture, but the energy transition project is the one tied to carbon emissions and climate policy. The region holds half the world's population and a growing majority of global carbon emissions, so understanding its energy history matters for current decarbonization efforts. ARC Future Fellowships support mid-career researchers over four years. This round shows that Australian research funding is putting money behind the historical and social dimensions of clean energy, not just the technical side.
