L&G and National Trust Partner on UK Woodland Carbon Credits for Biodiversity and Net Zero
sustainabilitymag.comLegal & General has partnered with the National Trust to secure high-integrity carbon credits from a portfolio of biodiverse woodlands across the UK. The deal aims to accelerate decarbonization and fund nature restoration, supporting the Trust's goal of reaching net zero by 2030. L&G will invest in existing and new woodlands, generating credits that meet quality standards while also enabling staff volunteer opportunities. This partnership is part of L&G's broader climate strategy, which includes reducing carbon intensity of its assets by 50% by 2030 and achieving net zero by 2050. The company is also investing in renewable energy, net zero housing, and nature-based solutions like the Pudding Wood project, where 140,000 trees are expected to capture around 25,000 tonnes of carbon. For the carbon credit market, this deal shows how institutional investors and conservation groups can work together to scale high-quality offsets with measurable biodiversity co-benefits.
