Kyrgyzstan is implementing a new carbon finance initiative backed by the World Bank and the Transformative Carbon Asset Facility. The 50 million dollar program uses a results-based financing model, where payments are released only after greenhouse gas reductions are independently verified. This initiative aims to modernize the energy sector and reduce reliance on coal for heating in cities like Bishkek. The project includes the creation of a national carbon unit registry and a greenhouse gas monitoring system to integrate the country into international carbon markets.
