Kumho Petrochemical shifts to eco-friendly materials with CCUS and synthetic rubber for EV tires
chosun.comKumho Petrochemical is restructuring its business around low-carbon technologies and eco-friendly materials. The company completed a 35,000 ton expansion of SSBR synthetic rubber used in electric vehicle tires and built a carbon capture facility handling 76,000 tons of CO2 per year. It also developed recycled ABS for car interiors that cuts carbon emissions by 16%. Other subsidiaries are expanding production of EPDM rubber and low-carbon epoxy for construction and shipbuilding. Kumho is also working with POSCO Future M on next-generation anode-free lithium-metal batteries. The strategy focuses on R&D and partnerships rather than just cutting costs or expanding output.
