Researchers at the Korea Research Institute of Chemical Technology (KRICT) have developed a pilot plant that converts carbon dioxide and hydrogen directly into liquid hydrocarbons. The system produces 50 kg per day of gasoline and naphtha, bypassing the traditional high-temperature step used to create carbon monoxide. This direct hydrogenation process operates at lower temperatures and pressures than conventional methods, reducing energy requirements. The team is now working toward a commercial scale capable of producing over 100,000 tons of sustainable fuels annually to reduce reliance on imported petroleum.
