Researchers at the Korea Research Institute of Chemical Technology (KRICT) have developed a new composite interlayer for solid oxide electrolysis cells. This buffer layer prevents the material cracking and delamination that typically occurs during high temperature operation, significantly extending the lifespan of the cells. The breakthrough increases the CO2 processing rate by 3.6 times and uses a cost effective dip coating process for manufacturing. This technology helps convert captured carbon dioxide into carbon monoxide, a primary building block for sustainable aviation fuels and green plastics.
