Researchers at the Korea Research Institute of Chemical Technology have developed a new interface engineering method for solid oxide electrolysis cells (SOECs). By using a dip-coated composite interlayer, they solved the problem of electrolyte delamination caused by thermal expansion, significantly increasing the durability and efficiency of converting CO2 into carbon monoxide. This breakthrough improves current density by 3.6 times and maintains high performance during continuous operation. The process avoids expensive deposition equipment, making it a scalable option for producing syngas for sustainable aviation fuels and other industrial chemicals.
