Researchers at the Korea Research Institute of Chemical Technology have improved the durability of solid oxide electrolysis cells (SOECs). By using a simple dip-coating process to create a composite interlayer, they prevented electrolyte cracking at high temperatures, which typically limits the lifespan of these devices. This advancement increases the efficiency of converting carbon dioxide into carbon monoxide, a key building block for sustainable aviation fuels and green chemicals. The new method avoids expensive deposition equipment, making the technology easier to scale for industrial carbon utilization.
