Korea Zinc signs 20-year solar PPA to supply smelter with 11 GWh per year
newsarticleinsiders.comKorea Zinc, a major non-ferrous metal smelter, has signed a 20-year power purchase agreement to buy 11 gigawatt-hours of renewable energy annually from domestic solar plants. The deal, starting in December, fixes electricity prices for the contract term and is expected to cut the company's carbon emissions by about 4,200 metric tons per year, roughly equal to the annual emissions of 2,100 passenger cars. This agreement builds on Korea Zinc's earlier renewable investments, including a 124 MW solar farm in Australia that covers about a quarter of its Sun Metals refinery's electricity needs, and a stake in the MacIntyre Wind Farm. The company aims to expand renewable energy use across its global operations as part of its path to carbon neutrality.
