Korea Southern Power Co., Ltd. (KOSPO) has announced a long term roadmap to deploy 11.2 GW of renewable energy by 2040. The company plans to add 3.4 GW over the next five years, focusing on offshore wind, solar power, and energy storage systems (ESS). To support these targets, KOSPO signed agreements with 11 partners across finance, technology, and project development. These partnerships aim to build a stronger renewable energy ecosystem to meet South Korea's carbon neutrality goals and Nationally Determined Contributions.

11.2 GW is a big number, but the real question is where this plugs into the grid. South Korea has a very tight transmission network. I wonder if they have a plan for the grid upgrades needed to handle this much intermittent power, or if they are just announcing capacity targets.
