Korea's 220 Trillion Won K-GX Plan: Hydrogen Steel, Offshore Wind, SMRs and Heat Pumps
en.sedaily.comSouth Korea's K-GX plan directs about 220 trillion won of corporate investment into emissions cuts and clean energy, with a larger 1,000 trillion won public-private pipeline over the next decade. Signature projects are tied to regional hubs: POSCO's hydrogen-based steelmaking in Pohang, Hanwha Qcells' tandem solar line in North Chungcheong, LG Energy Solution's sodium battery pilot in Ochang, and an offshore wind supply chain led by Doosan Enerbility, Unison and SK Oceanplant. The plan also targets grid equipment, including gigawatt-class HVDC submarine cables, plus 3.5 million heat pumps by 2035, electric two-wheelers, and SMR production in Changwon. Cement makers in Gangwon are expected to raise blended cement output from 16% to 40% by 2035. Delivery depends on private spending actually moving from announcement to execution, especially in hydrogen steel, offshore wind and grid interconnection.
