Kookmin University Develops New Ruthenium-Titania Catalyst for Efficient Hydrogen Production
koreatimes.co.krResearchers at Kookmin University have created a heterostructured catalyst using ruthenium oxide nanoparticles and titania supports to improve alkaline water electrolysis. This new method accelerates the water-splitting process by lowering the overpotential required for the hydrogen evolution reaction. By reducing the reliance on expensive platinum-group metals, this technology supports the development of more cost-effective anion exchange membrane water electrolysis systems. The study provides direct observation of how water molecules are activated at the catalyst interface to increase energy efficiency.
