Kolon Industries completed a sea forest creation project in Garorim Bay, South Korea, transplanting 10,000 Zalp marine plants across roughly 500 square meters. The initiative is a partnership with the Korea Fisheries Resources Agency and the Environmental Foundation. Zalp absorbs and stores carbon while providing habitat for marine life, making this a direct carbon removal effort tied to coastal ecosystem restoration. The project also included a cleanup event where 50 volunteers collected 176 kilograms of marine debris. Kolon says the sea forest sits adjacent to its Daesan plant. This is a small scale pilot, but it shows how industrial firms can invest in blue carbon offsets near their own facilities. Whether these credits get verified or traded remains unclear from the announcement.
