Kolon Industries expands low-carbon polyacetal, recycled materials, and AI-grade mPPO
koreaherald.comKolon Industries has been expanding its advanced materials business, with new capacity and product launches through the second half of this year. The company now targets about 200 billion won ($145 million) in sales from modified polyphenylene oxide (mPPO), a material used in high-performance circuit boards for AI accelerators and 6G communications. It also completed a new polyurethane artificial leather line for automakers that are moving away from natural leather. On the lower-carbon side, Kolon began commercializing Kocetal Eco-E, a polyacetal made with e-methanol from renewable energy, and claims it is the world's first low-carbon polyacetal for medical use. Its recycled spunbond nonwoven products, which won an IR52 Jang Young-shil Award, can cut carbon emissions by up to 43 percent versus conventional production. The company says it will keep pushing into higher-value applications through R&D and AI-driven operational improvements.
