Kochi Metro's new website, built by Cusat students, adds carbon footprint tracking to multi-modal travel
newindianexpress.comKochi Metro Rail Ltd (KMRL) launched a new website developed by computer science students at Cusat. The site brings together five travel modes: metro train, feeder bus, water metro, e-auto, and shared bicycle. It offers ticket booking, live train tracking, station information, and a section on business and career opportunities. A carbon footprint tracking feature is planned, which would let users see the emissions impact of their trips on KMRL services. The project grew from an earlier collaboration where Cusat students built a gender identification prototype for KMRL. The new website replaces a ten-year-old platform that only covered metro trains. The student team took two to three weeks to build the site. KMRL says the carbon footprint feature is part of its effort to position Kochi Metro on a global platform, likely appealing to environmentally conscious riders and city planners.
