KLIA 36 MWp solar park with battery storage expected online by April 2027
themalaysianreserve.comMalaysia Airports expects its 36 MWp KLIA Aeropolis Solar Park to begin operations by April 2027. The project includes 45 MWh of battery energy storage and is projected to avoid around 35,000 tonnes of carbon emissions per year, supporting the operator's goal of net zero Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2040. The company is also updating emissions baselines across five international airports, including KLIA, Penang, Kota Kinabalu, Kuching, and Langkawi. It is pursuing Airport Carbon Accreditation Level 4 at KLIA and working with Malaysia Aviation Group on sustainable aviation fuel, ground electrification, and energy efficiency. The solar park is part of a wider decarbonization push that includes terminal efficiency upgrades, airfield ground lighting, and electrification of ground vehicles. Malaysia Airports notes that infrastructure investments will take years to pay off and require closer coordination with airlines and industry partners.
