King Charles urges other countries to replicate Guyana's Low Carbon Development Strategy
newssourcegy.comKing Charles has called on other countries to replicate Guyana's Low Carbon Development Strategy (LCDS), a national framework that balances economic growth with forest conservation. Speaking at the 2nd Global Biodiversity Alliance Conference in Georgetown, he praised Guyana for keeping a large share of its forest standing and for pioneering international financing for conservation. President Irfaan Ali said the country has channeled LCDS revenues into thousands of projects and is now expanding into biodiversity and sustainable cities. The LCDS dates back nearly two decades and has been supported by King Charles since its early days. Guyana's model includes payments for forest preservation, with revenues going into local development. The King said a mixed approach is needed to tackle climate change, and that restoration and preservation of biodiversity are critical. He also highlighted the Iwokrama International Centre for Rainforest Conservation and Development, where he remains a patron.
