KGAL is recycling capital here. Selling a 16 MW site to fund newer projects is a standard move, but it would be useful to know the actual sale price to see what the current premium is for operational Italian solar.
16 MW is a small fish. The real question is whether the new investments they are targeting include storage. Without batteries, adding more solar to the European grid just increases curtailment risk in some regions.
This reflects the shift from early subsidy based models to a more mature merchant or PPA market. Divesting older assets to pivot toward newer regulatory frameworks is how these funds maintain their internal rate of return.
