KFAED funds 6 MW solar plant in southern Turkey to cut carbon emissions and support Syrian refugee camps

The Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) has inaugurated a 6 MW solar power plant in Kahramanmaras Province, southern Turkey. The project was funded through a $4 million allocation from a $10 million grant aimed at supporting the Syrian refugee response plan. The solar facility will provide heating and cooling for camps and temporary shelters, reduce energy consumption, and lower carbon emissions. The plant is part of a broader grant that also funds a children's library and arts center, a guidance and career planning center, and a youth and sports center. Kuwait's ambassador to Turkey and the Kahramanmaras mayor both highlighted the project as a concrete example of international cooperation for sustainable development and climate action. This project demonstrates how development finance can directly support renewable energy deployment in host communities, combining humanitarian aid with long-term decarbonization goals. The 6 MW capacity is modest but targeted at a specific need, showing a practical approach to integrating solar power into refugee response infrastructure.
