Kenyan Universities Sign Green Energy Research Partnerships With Chinese Institutions
citizen.digitalKenyan universities, including the Technical University of Kenya and the Kenya Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, signed cooperation agreements with Shandong Jianzhu University during the Third China-Africa Green Energy Science and Technology Innovation Cooperation Forum in Jinan, China. The forum ran from October 23 to 25 and drew nearly 200 participants from 33 countries. The agreements cover joint research, academic exchanges, researcher mobility and scientific training in renewable energy, hydrogen technologies, energy storage and low-carbon construction. Researchers also presented work on hydrogen production, thermal energy storage, waste conversion and AI applications in energy management. These partnerships aim to strengthen African research capacity, but their impact depends on moving from memoranda to funded projects, technology transfer and commercially viable clean energy solutions. For anyone tracking Africa's energy transition, the key signal is whether these agreements produce working pilots and deployed systems, not just diplomatic ceremony.
