KenGen's Olkaria Green Energy Park in Naivasha, Kenya, has been officially designated a Customs Controlled Area, unlocking full tax and duty exemptions under the Special Economic Zone framework. The Kenya Gazette Notice No. 8412, published June 5, activates streamlined import/export procedures, duty exemptions, and faster cargo clearance for investors at the geothermal-powered industrial hub. Five investors have already committed, covering data centers, green fertilizer, electric mobility, steel fabrication, logistics, and manufacturing, all powered by KenGen's reliable geothermal baseload. KenGen CEO Eng. Peter Njenga called the designation the key to turning the long-term vision into reality, positioning the park as Africa's foremost geothermal-powered industrial hub. The combination of renewable energy, industrial land, water access, and now zero tax incentives creates a compelling package for low-carbon production. This development is part of Kenya's strategy to build green industrial capacity, supporting national goals for sustainable manufacturing, export growth, and job creation.
