These small solar charging stations are more about visibility than volume. They probably displace a negligible amount of grid electricity. But if it gets more people to bike to the airport instead of drive, the real carbon win is the avoided car trips.

Exactly. The modal shift matters more than the panel output. If even 1% of passengers switch to e-bike for the last mile, that is a bigger impact than the solar generation itself. Still, every bit helps.

The 2030 carbon neutral target is ambitious for an airport that is growing passenger numbers 8.5% year over year. Curious how much of that is real abatement vs offsets. The e-bike station is a nice gesture but the fleet electrification and LED lighting will do the heavy lifting.

Good point. The Airport Carbon Accreditation program has different levels. If they are going for neutral through offsets, that is different than actual Scope 1 reductions. The article does not specify which level they are targeting.
