Karrot, the Korean hyperlocal community and secondhand marketplace platform, received a Presidential Citation at the 2026 Environment Day ceremony for its contributions to resource circulation and carbon neutrality. The company was recognized for the environmental impact of its 21 million monthly active users, who facilitated 190 million secondhand transactions over the past year, extending the lifespan of clothing, furniture, and electronics while reducing waste and greenhouse gas emissions. Karrot also ran a Carbon Neutrality Practice Culture Campaign with the Korea Environmental Preservation Association and a Neighborhood Walk for the Earth Campaign with the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment. The award highlights how peer-to-peer secondhand marketplaces can drive measurable circular economy outcomes at scale, offering a practical model for urban carbon reduction through reuse rather than recycling.
