KAPSARC wins Best Paper Awards at WPC Energy Congress for clean cooking carbon finance and petrochemicals research
saudigazette.com.saKAPSARC received two Best Paper Awards at the 25th WPC Energy Congress in Riyadh, held October 11-15. One paper examined carbon finance for clean cooking in Africa, comparing methodologies, market models, and mitigation outcomes. The other used a global bottom-up energy model to assess petrochemicals in the energy transition. At the congress, KAPSARC also joined panels on oil market fundamentals, energy security, and investment, and presented research on industrial decarbonization, carbon capture and utilization, and the social cost of carbon. The center supported the SMART CDR 2.0 competition for scalable carbon dioxide removal technologies and led sessions on generative AI in oil market analysis and carbon dioxide removal. The awards highlight a shift toward research that connects energy policy with measurable emissions reductions. The clean cooking paper in particular addresses a major gap in carbon markets, where methodology choices determine whether projects actually deliver climate benefits.
