Kanadevia and Bahwan Engineering have signed a partnership to develop green hydrogen projects in Oman. The collaboration aims to leverage Oman's renewable energy potential, particularly solar and wind, to produce green hydrogen for domestic use and export. This aligns with Oman's national strategy to become a major green hydrogen hub by 2030, targeting production of 1 million tonnes per year by 2030 and up to 8.5 million tonnes by 2050. The partnership combines Kanadevia's hydrogen technology expertise with Bahwan Engineering's local project development capabilities. Oman offers strong solar and wind resources, plus existing gas infrastructure that could be repurposed for hydrogen transport. The projects will likely target industrial users and international buyers in Europe and Asia. Key questions remain around water supply for electrolysis, final offtake agreements, and the cost competitiveness of Omani green hydrogen versus blue hydrogen from the region.
