Julius Berger Pushes Recycled Concrete and Low Carbon Construction at Nigeria Green Building Summit
leadership.ngJulius Berger Nigeria Plc used the Future Cities Summit 2026 in Lagos to push for wider adoption of recycled concrete and lifecycle cost thinking in construction. The company's regional manager, Thomas Christl, said high upfront costs are a barrier but that sustainable buildings deliver lower operating costs and energy use over time. He called for stronger collaboration between universities, builders, material makers, and regulators to set clear standards for recycled concrete in Nigeria. The summit, organized by the Green Building Council Nigeria, focused on scaling sustainability for greener cities. Panelists discussed how to balance materials, methods, and margins in low carbon construction. Christl argued that the main challenge is not a lack of technical know how but poor communication of research and innovation across the construction supply chain. He stressed that designers, engineers, and clients need to stay informed about greener concrete and other sustainable building technologies.
